boot – Ubuntu fails to install on Wyse thin client. Grub / EFI
I am trying to install ubuntu on a wyse Z50D.
When installing either 24.04.2 Desktop or Server, it keeps failing on the Grub install “cannot set EFi variable”
Whilst the bios does not offer a legacy UEFI option, I figured it may be legacy due to the age of the device and flashrom reporting it only being 2mb.
Installing Desktop in legacy mode by removing the EFI folder from the boot usb the install goes without error. But the device does not boot at all.
Running boot repair is says it is in EFI mode but no ESP partition.
which i got from the boot status as well:
===================================== UEFI =====================================
BIOS/UEFI firmware: 3.0B(0.1) from Phoenix Technologies Ltd.
The firmware seems EFI-compatible, but this live-session is in Legacy/BIOS/CSM mode (not in EFI mode).
But installing EFI keeps getting grub errors, I am kind of stuck on what to do with this.
