So you’re thinking of using CLAP’s [url=https://github.com/free-audio/clap/blob/main/include/clap/ext/remote-controls.h]”remote control” extension? That seems simple enough to add to one of the example/open-source CLAPs.

From the hardware side, it seems there’s a “Mackie Control” protocol which goes over MIDI. Supporting DAWs should be able to hook the CLAP up to those control messages.
