Your statement about modelers is not accurate. Modeling refers to software that creates an effect by creating mathematical models of the components used in the device that creates the sound (as opposed to using an abstract algorithm). This applies to any hardware, whether it is an amp, compressor, filter, time based effect, etc.
Both Line 6 devices you mentioned model actual effects devices, and therefore it is not wrong to call them modelers.
