FX are midi destinations in every daw I’ve ever used. Bitwig, reaper, cubase, studio 1, machine, fruity loops, Ableton and probably others. If you create a midi track you can send it’s midi to any plugin on any channel. This is how many people handle automation. It’s also the way very many FX have been used since the early days of vst (vocoders, autotune, effects like stutter edit, artillery, the finger, turnado, rezsynth, all the old arp 2600 emus, minimonsta1 reaktor, absynth etc etc etc)…
