linux – Script to auto mute microphone after N minutes of inactivity using pipewire and wireplumber

I can already toggle mic mute with wpctl set-mute @DEFAULT_AUDIO_SOURCE@ toggle.

But I haven’t figured out the way to auto mute mic after N minutes of inactivity.

Not exactly sure how to even approach detecting “mic inactivity”, I thought of the two ways so far:

  1. Continually track mic dB output and if it doesn’t exceeds specific value for N minutes then mute it.
  2. Detect if any program is using wireplumber mic, if not for N minutes then mute it

I’m especially not sure how to do the part when I need to know if something is the case or not for N minutes.
