What are you using Neve and API mic pre for?

I’ve owned an API console and now a Neve console.

Both are excellent.

API is more ‘upper mid forward’ or ‘hyped’ It sounds modern.

Neve is way more lush and ‘open’ sounding and more ‘organic’ due to the lower mid harmonics.

If I had both consoles and wanted to think the way the OP is implying when asking his/her question I would answer:

Nothing is better for tracking IMHO than Neve.

I could see mixing some songs (tracked thru a Neve) on an API which could bring a different energy to the tracks.

Additionally it would be cool to track thru the API and mix down thru the Neve. (I believe Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors was done this way)

I prefer to track/mix all with the same console and focus on the engineering.

I think getting a hodge lodge of mic pres and thinking one is better than another on various tracks is like a dog spinning in circles chasing its tail. – lol

With a console of the same mic pre’s you focus your attention on different details
