dom – WebRTC App VS existing Website – What is best aproach
I am trying to find out the best approach to have an WebRTC app (with chat, video, data transfer and screen sharing features, built with NodeJs, socketIO) integrated into a website with the following requirements:
- minimum changes as possible in the website, to accomodate WebRTC;
- no dependency with the website environment as much as possible;(CSS, events, html elements…);
- having WebRtC app in the site is preferable.
So far my possible solutions are:
- putting Webrtc app into an iframe block in the website. I think problems accessing DOM would arise, such as accessing video camera.
-using a click & overlay approach for the WebRTC app. where I would be using Shadow DOM to make WebRTC independent of the website and still able to access document/window object. Not really sure what are the downsides.
- have a link in the website pointing to an external WebRTC app. (A subdomain for example). But would fall off the requirements.
What do you think is best, taking into account all above?
Any other different approach is welcome 🙂
