Poly or Chan pressure for MPE? – Roger Linn Design Forum

Hi DrToons,

Channel Pressure (also called Channel Aftertouch) is a message that sends a single pressure value for all keys pressed on a keyboard.

Poly Pressure (also called Poly Aftertouch) is a message that sends a unique pressure value for each key pressed within a chord.

The official MPE specification states that the message used for finger pressure is Channel Pressure. Given that MPE uses a difference MIDI channel for each touch, this permits each touch within a chord to have a unique pressure value.

If you’re like to learn more about MPE, visit the LinnStrument Support page and click “What is MPE?”

If you’d like to quickly switch between MPE settings and common settings for One Channel (non-MPE) synths, there is no need to use the 6 “Al Settings” memories in the Preset screen. Instead, use the shortcuts described on the Getting Started page:

In Per-Split settings, MIDI MODE column:

To set all MIDI settings for MPE play, HOLD ‘ChPerNote” for 1 second.

To set all MIDI settings for use with conventional one-channel non-MPE synths, HOLD “One Chan” for 1 second.
