Is there a good and free FET 1176 compressor vst – Page 3 – Effects Forum

I recently tried to take some of my better “versatile” compressors (such as Pro-C 2, FirComp, Molot GE) to the Plugin Doctor and clone a “Dr Pepper” starting-point preset using some 1176 plugins as a reference. Should be easy to get in the ballpark, right?

It turns out that all my 1176 plugins have different attack/release ranges, so the “10 o’clock, 2 o’clock, 4:1” setting is significantly different on all of them. The actual tail curves were also hard to match with each other and impossible to match with the non-emulations.

A few different conclusions that can be drawn! I think if you like 1176 it is worth having a dedicated plugin, but it may be difficult to find the right plugin for “your” 1176. TrackComp is a bit more adjustable which is great but means there is no Dr Pepper setting…
