MIDI latency with different OSes and audio buffer sizes – DSP and Plugin Development Forum

I already have an estimation for the MIDI latency. On Mac, with my own computer, it seems to be the same as audio buffer size (ms). On PC is seems to be 2 x audio buffer size (ms). I had different audio interfaces with Mac and PC. I do not know if these sizes would change if I swapped the interfaces.

I tested this latency by setting the audio buffer size to 1024 samples and listening when the MIDI was in perfect sync audibly, judged by ear.

I also have a user tweakable MIDI latency for each MIDI output. What I hope to do is find as reliable as possible way to calculate the default value for those MIDI outputs.
