Microsoft has restricted the removal of the new Backup app on Windows 11, providing an explanation
To address the issue of being unable to uninstall the “Windows Backup” app on Windows 10, Microsoft has launched a new app as part of the Copilot update.
The Windows Backup app is a component of the system and cannot be removed from the “Installed apps” page as it requires a Microsoft account, according to the software. This restriction only applies to enterprise installations of Windows 11, and users logged in via an Azure Active Directory (AAD) or Active Directory (AD) can still access the application.
The application will be concealed in certain configurations, as Microsoft plans to update it to hide it from users.
Despite being designed to restore data in the event of hardware failure or when transferring to a new computer, the Windows Backup app is not a traditional backup application as it uses OneDrive as the storage medium.
OOBE is the only method available for users to recover all their data, either during installation or during computer installation.
In addition, the Windows Backup will not reinstall apps; instead, it will restore the icons in the Start menu and Taskbar. After an app is downloaded from the Microsoft Store, the system will only download it again if it is not available from the Store. If the app is not from the Microsoft Store, the system will open the page to reinstall the application after clicking it.
The absence of a button to uninstall Windows Backup has caused numerous complaints from users. However, the app is only used to access the backup settings established on the “Windows Backup” settings page since the original release of Windows 11.
